Wolverines Nab KingCo Hardware!

KingCo 3A Champions!

The Wolverine’s Varsity team took a tough loss to Mercer Island in their last game of regular season, made harder as one of their starting setters, Sophomore Mia Vong, was injured early in the third set with an ankle sprain. The team went on to win the set, but couldn’t hold on to the lead and lost the match 2-3. Despite the loss, the team still held on to their first place finish in KingCo league as they headed into the playoffs. Their first match was against Juanita early last week where they started off slowly but managed to pull off the win 3-1 and advance to the league championship against Interlake. Interlake came out strong while the Wolverines struggled early in the first set digging themselves into a 6-17 hole that they just couldn’t overcome and lost 14-25.

Belleuve came back strong in the second set to win 25-17, but struggled again with passing and hitting errors in the third set. Down 1-10, they never gave up, played hard, and crawled their way back to tie the game at 16-16 before finally taking the lead and finishing with a 25-19 win. The scored stayed close from there, battling back and forth through the fourth set, but ultimately lost 21-25, forcing a fifth and final set. Bellevue came out and just dominated the court early in the fifth set with a 14-8 lead when Interlake launched a comeback and pulled to within three points before Bellevue finally put the ball away for the last time and won the KingCo championship!

They Varsity team finished in 1st place for the KingCo 3A division with a 16-2 overall record in the regular season and is moving on to the SeaKing district tournament later this week. The JV Team finished the season 9-3 and the C-Team finished 4-12 overall.

Come cheer the varsity team on in their post-season run for State as they tackle the Seattle Metro division on November 8th 7:30pm at Sammamish High School.

Wolverines Continue to Roll!

The Wolverine’s Varsity volleyball team moved up to the #8 spot in the state 3A rankings after a clean 3-0 sweep against Lake Washington. It was also Senior Night, celebrating our volleyball Seniors with a special introduction by teammates and an all-Senior starting line-up. They began the match with a slow start, but managed another come-from-behind victory to win the first set 26-24 with some clutch serves by setter Meghan Weber, who ended the match with a total of five aces for the night. The second set started off stronger and Bellevue held the lead with more great serves and some great plays by middle Senior Jenna Keenan. Fellow Senior Haley Cook closed out the set with one of the strongest hits from the back row this season to win 25-19. Carly Burns had another great night, playing strong defense and picking up the digs, while Senior Katie Sorrell closes out with a team-high seven blocks this match and helping the team to a 25-23 victory in the final set of the match.

While the C-Team lost 0-2, the JV team pulled out a great 2-0 win to round out the night with some great serving by setter Anastasiya Polyakov and solid hitting at the net by middle Mason Mukhar and outside hitter Devon Condie.

The last game of the season is this Thursday, October 25th at Mercer Island High School against their biggest rival.  The C-Team and JV start at 5:15pm and the Varsity starts at 7:00pm.

Sammamish Match, Varsity

Three’s a Charm as Wolverines Sweep

After two quick 3-0 wins against Juanita and Sammamish High Schools, Bellevue took on the Eastlake Wolves, the third ranked team in the 4A division, in a grueling battle last Friday night. The stands were once again packed with the band and fans coming out in force to cheer on the Wolverines.

To say the match started slow for the Varsity would be an understatement as the Wolves decimated Bellevue 7-25 in the first set with tough serves and a strong defense that Bellevue just couldn’t get past …. and then the real game started. Bellevue came out in the second set with a fierce determination that has set them apart all season. Even though they trailed for most of the set, they never let up and made play after play to keep within a few points of their opponent. With the team down 11-18 in the second set, it was looking like another tough loss when they slowly starting crawling their way back. Middle hitter Katie Sorrell came up with a clutch block followed by a massive kill and the tides turned. Carly Burns, the Junior libero, made one save after another playing amazing defense and diving all over the back line to keep the ball in play and help pull the team to a 23-23 tie, and then finally pulling ahead to win the set 25-23. They started down again in the third set 12-17 and had to come from behind with great digs and a strong line-up at the net to pull out another win 25-21. With the momentum clearly in our favor, the Wolverines started off strong in the fourth set but couldn’t hold on to the lead and lost 21-25 forcing a fifth set. Bellevue started with an ace by setter Mia Vong, and then followed up with six more points straight with the team closing on great blocks and serious kills at the net for resounding 7-0 lead. The game looked over for Eastlake when a series of errors by Bellevue let them back in to nearly tie the game at 10-9 before Bellevue answered with some more great defense by Carly and strong plays from the middle and outside to finally finish the match 15-12. The win moves Bellevue to #8 in state with a 12-1 overall record and keeps them in first place in the division. The Varsity team went on to beat Interlake on Tuesday night for a four-game sweep.

The C-Team had some great serving and showed a lot of improvement, but lost to Juanita before finding their groove with strong serves and setting up plays to sweep Sammamish in three sets. Hitters Ali Follet and Kiana Amini-Naieni scored at the net to help turn momentum in their favor followed up by great serves by Juanna Haque, Elsa Ulfengren, and Ashley Farringer to close out the match. They couldn’t hold their momentum, though, and lost to Eastlake and Interlake for a 5-9 record overall heading into the final stretch of the season. The JV Team moves into second place in the division as their record improves last week and they pull out a close win last night against Interlake.

The Wolverines’ last home game is this Thursday night where we celebrate our Seniors! The C-Team and JV start at 5:15 and the Varsity starts at 7:00.
