Saints March But Come Up Short
Wolverines Prevail in 3 in Mercer Island Tune-Up
The Bellevue Wolverines took on their cross-town rivals, the Interlake Saints, on Monday night. The Wolverines were short-handed without Jordan Meyer and Natalie Hayes who were out with illness. Sickness has ran through the team with several girls missing practice last week. But the show must go on!
Game one started with the senior connection of Knapp to Khuu to Weber for the kill. Khuu followed that up with and ace and BHS was on their way. A Katie Sorrell kill put BHS up 5-1 and Weber got a back row kill to put Bellevue up 10-3. Weber got a kill and an ace in back to back plays to put the Wolverines up 18-10. Bellevue cruised to a 25-17 game one win.
Game 2 started with a Khuu ace and after a Naomi Chen-Mallouck kill, BHS was up 4-3. Weber got a couple of kills in a stretch to put BHS up 6-4, but Interlake was fighting hard to make this a game. Weber got a kill to put Bellevue up 14-11 and that gave Knapp the serve. She dealt two straight aces to put BHS up 16-11 looking to put it away. But, IHS came back to close it to 20-19. Jenna Keenan got a kill followed by a Holly Huard kill to put BHS up 22-21. Khuu then ripped an ace, but the Saints got back to back points to tie it up at 23. The Interlake server then hit it long giving Sophomore Carly Burns the serve with the game on the line. She calmly found the spot where the Saints weren’t for the game winning ace and game 2 went to BHS, 25-23.
Game 3 started with a Chen-Mallouk right side kill. Khuu and Huard rewarded a couple of over passes with kills to put BHS up 4-2. Weber put away a couple of more to stretch the lead to 9-7. Sorrell and Chen-Mallouk got back to back kills and Bellevue was able to stretch the lead to 12-8. Huard then got back to back to back kills from some great Khuu sets and the 16-10 lead was all BHS. Abby Harden got a kill against her former team and the Julia Bray took a Taylor Eide set to put Bellevue on the brink at 24-15. A wide IHS serve was the last point and the Bellevue Wolverines remained undefeated with a 3-0 victory over Interlake.
Bellevue plays Mercer Island in the game of the year on Wednesday. Call your friends and have them join us for what will be some amazing volleyball between bitter rivals and two of the best teams in the state.
JV Team Continues Strong Campaign with 3-0 Win
The Wolverine JV team, 2-2 in the young season, looked to move above .500 for the first time with a victory at Interlake.
Bellevue jumped out to a large lead in game 1 with strong play across the board. After Bellevue extended its lead to 11, Interlake made a run and came within one point. Parents and fans in the stands were tense, but a strong serving rotation by Mason Mukhar closed the game for the win.
Game two started out with a nice pass, set, hit combo from Livie McQuain, Mia Vong and Kelly Treves. Two solid kills by Treves followed up by good serves by Lauren Gorder put Bellevue in the lead. A few out of rotation fumbles gave Interlake a chance, but some final aces closed the game for a win. It wasn't Bellevue's smoothest game, but the team showed a lot of grit and took the match.
In the "courtesy" game 3, the Wolverines did not let up. Meghan Weber served 3 aces in a row and Lillian Johnson added points with a directed dink. Victoria Christopher sealed the deal with a block and kill to win the final game.
