And a battle it was, right from the 1st set. The teams battled back and forth in the early set, until an ace and three straight serves by Jo Meyers, some great ups by Tayla Isensee and a big block by Sydney Clapham put the Lady Wolverines up 12-9. Lakeside roared back with some great serving, team play and some Bellevue miscues to pull ahead 19-14. Bellevue fought to stay in the set with a big block by Bethany Keenan and some great serving by Zoe Chen to make the score 20-18. Bellevue again couldn’t keep the rally going and fell back to 24-18 but again refused to go away quietly with another big block by Sydney Clapham, great serving by Haley Cook, and a solid hit by Jo Meyers to make the score 24-21. However, it wasn’t enough as Lakeside took the first set 25-21.

 

Bellevue jumped out fast in the second set 2-0 with the serving of Natalie Hayes and a big Jenna Keenan hit. After a Lakeside point, Hannah Geffe ran off 4 consecutive points to put Bellevue up 6-1. Bellevue pulled ahead 8-2 and then the miscues brought Lakeside even at 9-9. The teams battled back and forth with hard fought points and rallies until Tayla Isensee ran off three consecutive serves to put Bellevue up 16-13. Great serves by Jo Meyers, Bridget Conroy, and Hannah Geffe put the Wolverines up 19-15. Jenna Keenan then took over with three big hits in a row to put Bellevue up 22-15. Some big hits by Jo Meyers and Sydney Clapham closed out the set for the Wolverines pushing the match to a decisive 3rd set.

 

The teams came out tentative in the third set with some missed serves putting the score at Lakeside 3 and Bellevue 2. Jenna Keenan then ran off 3 consecutive serves, and Haley Cook had a great push for no return to put Bellevue up 5-3. Lakeside continued to play hard with some great hitting and pulled ahead 6-5. The teams traded scores back and forth with hard fought rallies and some great ups from Bellevue from Morgan Craig and Tayla Isensee but Lakeside pulled ahead 10-8. Following a great hit by Hannah Geffe and a Lakeside miss Bellevue tied up the score at 10-10 and the crowd was buzzing in this great match. Another great play by Hannah Geffe and Bellevue pulled ahead 12-11. Lakeside pulled even and then Jenna Kennan had another big block to push the score to 13-12 Bellevue in this best of 15 final set. A Bellevue net call made it 13-13 but Lakeside served long and then Sydney Clapham punctuated the win with a huge block in this hard fought battle.

 

Bellevue earned the win on this night with great team play against a solid opponent.
