Wolverines Ring Liberty's Bell

Smoother sailing in home re-match against scrappy Patriots

The Bellevue Wolverines put their 10-1 record on the line on Monday night versus the Liberty Patriots. This is a rematch of an earlier game that was a five game nail-biter where the Wolverines took the match.

Bellevue took the first point with a Naomi Chen-Mallouk kill and we were under way. Alexis Khuu got her first ace of the night to make the game 3-0. BHS kept a narrow lead throughout behind 3 more Chen-Mallouk kills and the score was 13-11. Callie Weber got her second kill of the night to make it 15-11. Katie Sorrell got a kill from the middle followed by a Holly Huard smash made it 18-12. Jenna Keenan got a kill to keep the lead at 19-14. The score remained close however and after back to back Weber kills the score was just 22-19. Khuu dealt her second ace of the game and then set up Weber for the game winner and game one went to BHS, 25-20.

Weber began game two with a kill to get he serve to Khuu who ripped 2 straight aces. The score was tight early and after a Kennan kill and a Carly Burns ace, the score was 8-7. Hannah Geffe got a kill from the back row to make the lead 14-11. Weber got a block, and back to back kills to stretch the lead to 17-12. Huard crushed a ball to make it 20-13 but Liberty got on a roll behind 3 straight aces prompting a Coach Kalingo time out a 20-17. The pep talk worked as Khuu and Weber got back to back kills and Sorrell put away the game winner and game two was to the Wolverines, 25-21.

Callie Weber used a knuckle shot to the back line for a back row kill to make the score 3-2 in game three. Sophia Knapp, who was a digging and passing machine, got on the scoreboard with an ace to make the score 4-2. Chen-Mallouk got a kill followed by a couple of Huard deftly placed shots and the score was 9-4. Julia Bray got an ace to make it 11-5 and BHS was on their way. Huard tallied 3 more kills and following a couple of Weber kills the score was 23-14. Fittingly, the Senior captains combined as Knapp passed it to Khuu who fed Weber to put away game three, 25-18.

Weber lead the team with 15 kills with Huard getting 10. Khuu lead the squad with 4 aces and 37 assists. Weber had 16 digs and Knapp had 11 to key the defense.
