Varsity Action vs. Liberty HS

Wolverine JV vs Liberty, "finish strong"

The JV Lady Wolverines came into Liberty High School on Thursday October 15th looking for revenge from an earlier season loss at home. Liberty came out swinging in the first set with five quick points and never looked back. Bellevue hung in the first set for a while with hard fought effort and passing by Natalie Hayes and Hannah Geffe. Jo Meyers had two great hits back to back to make the score 9-4 while Bethany Keenan had a huge block to bring Bellevue within five at 12-7. However, Liberty took control with some great serving and closed out the first set 25-13.

 

The second set started the same as the first with Liberty rolling off five quick points and then running the score up to 8-1. Bellevue refused to bow down and with some great passing by Olivia Norton, a big hit by Sydney Clapham, and aces by Morgan Craig and Jo Meyers Bellevue closed the score to 10-8. Again Liberty went on a run with great serving bringing the score up to 14-8. Bellevue continued to fight hard with great passing by Tayla Isensee from Bellevue. Jo Meyers hit a couple of great serves to bring Bellevue back to 14-10 until Liberty ran up another streak to make the score 17-10. Bellevue again refused to roll over with great hitting by Olivia Norton, Bethany Keenan and an ace by Sydney Clapham bringing the score to 17-14. Following a serve exchange Tayla Isensee and Bridget Conroy had some great ups on hard hit balls by Liberty, a great over by Morgan Craig and an Olivia Norton ace made the score 19-17 and the crowd was buzzing. Liberty again took over with great serving running the score to 22-17. A serve exchange and a big Jo Meyers hit brought the score to 23-18 followed by a huge block and then an ace by Morgan Craig made the score 23-20. Bellevue ran out of steam and couldn’t hold the comeback as Liberty closed out the second set 25-20 in a hard fought set.

 

In the final set to 15, Bellevue was determined on leaving the building with a winning set. Liberty jumped out again to a 3-1 lead until #9 Natalie Hayes punched an unreturnable second ball over the net and Hannah Geffe put together some nice serving making the score 4-3. Jenna Keena then blasted a big hit followed by a great serve putting Bellevue up 5-4. Bellevue jumped ahead 7-5 following an ace by Haley Cook and great passing by Hannah Geffe and hitting by Oliva Norton. A some mishits by Bellevue, Liberty took back the lead 9-7. Again Natalie Hayes pushed over a great second ball and an Olivia Norton ace brought the score even at 9-9. After a few Liberty points, Bellevue’s Joanna Yoo served and Liberty could not return followed by 3 big plays Jenna Keenan – a huge block in the middle, followed by a big hit and another block that put Bellevue ahead 14-12. Olivia Norton’s big hit closed out the set for the Lady Wolverines as Liberty took the overall win from the pesky, hard fighting Lady Wolverines on this night.
