Redmond Takes Season Finale

Wolverines Gear Up for Kingco Tourney on October 26-28

The Bellevue Wolverines traveled to Redmond on Monday night in the final regular season match of the year with both teams cemented in the second and third slots in the standings.

Coach Kalingo rolled out a new line up in game one and it worked to perfection as 2 kills by Jordan Meyers and 1 by Julia Bray got BHS out to a 5-0 lead. However, Redmond quickly made up those points and after Hannah Geffe took a set from Natalie Hayes and

put it away the game was tied up at 6. Bray put one away off a Taylor Eide set to take the lead at 12-11. Mina Dedijer joined the fun with a kill to make the score 14-16. Jessica Buxton, making her varsity debut, got a block to knot it up at 17. Geffe took an Eide set to take the slimmest of leads at 19-18. After a RHS service error tied it up at 21, Hayes took the serve and promptly dealt back to back aces to make it 23-21. But, that is where Redmond took it over running off the last four straight to take game one, 23-25.

A Jordan Meyers kill tied game two up at 5 before Abby Harden got the serve and scorched an ace. Buxton got a kill from the middle to make it 7-7. Callie Weber got on the scoreboard playing in the back row to knot it up at 13’s. Hayes punished an overpass giving the serve to Carly Burns and she found the court with it to close the lead to 17-20. But, it wasn’t enough as Redmond served out the game, 22-25.

Game three started off with a hot stretch as Bray got a kill then an ace, Geffe got a kill, Harden got one of her own, and BHS was out to a 5-0 lead. Geffe took an assist from Sophia Knapp to make it 7-3. Harden got kills in a run to make the score 19-14. Buxton got a kill and Bray kept the hot hand with one of her own and the Wolverines rolled in game three, 25-18.

Game four started off sloppy by both sides until Buxton got a kill to make it 3-4. Shortly after, Harden got the serve and picked up 2 aces and BHS had a 6-5 lead. After a Buxton block gave Bellevue a 8-7 lead, the Mustangs went on a run. Bray got back to back kills to get it to 19-23. Bray kept swinging and made it 21-24 giving the serve to Alexis Khuu who looked like Clark Kent going into the phone booth with her glasses on. She came out like a super hero with an ace to make it 22-24, but Redmond found the final point to take game 4, 22-25. And the match 3 games to 1.

Hayes lead the team with 3 aces and 17 assists. Geffe lead the squad with 13 digs followed closely by Burns with 12. Geffe had 9 kills and Bray was only one behind with 8. Buxton and Dedijer each had 3 blocks.

These two teams tangle on Thursday night at Mercer Island in the KINGCO playoffs. Hope to see you there to cheer on the team.
