The 2017 Bellevue Wolverine varsity team got out of the gate with a strong non-conference win over the stout Stanwood Spartans on Tuesday night. It was a nail-biter against a very good team, with the Wolverines prevailing 3-1. We didn't have a
reporter on scene for this match, and no stats were taken, so not a lot of details to report. But it was a great team effort all the way around - - excellent outside hitting (notably Callie Weber and Holly Huard), spectacular blocking and defense (starring Naomi-Chen Mallouk, Jenna Keenan, Mina Dedijer, Sophia Knapp, and Carly Burns) and of course world-class setting from the indefatigable Alexis Khuu. The team also got nice contributions from new additions Julia Bray, Hannah Geffe, and Katie Sorrell.
Facing possibly the best JV team in the state, the JV Wolverines mounted a strong effort but lost the match 3-0. The JV team got great contributions from up and down the lineup, and adds another strong player as we head into league play. The future looks bright for this team as it heads into Kingco 3A action.
The C team lost a 3-set heart-breaker, 27-25 in the 3rd game. After a tough first game, the team rallied and prevailed in a tight second game. The 3rd game was back and forth, with the Wolverines poised to wrap up the match with a 24-20 lead. The Spartans clawed their way back, however, and were able to pull it out in the end. Great effort, C Team!
