Some Serious Senior Love!
Gang of eight shines against Juanita on special night

The Bellevue Wolverines played the Juanita Rebels at home on Wednesday with their last home game of the season. We were able to celebrate our 8 seniors as they were announced by their team mates and joined on the court with their families. It was a wonderful gesture to these 8 girls who have helped build the program into one of the best in the area (and hopefully the State!).

Coach Kalingo was able to start an all senior line up in game one. Mina Dedijer crushed an overpass from the middle to make the score 2-2.Callie Weber smacked one from the back row to make it 4-6. Meghan Weber, making her varsity debut, came in to serve and promptly got on the scoreboard with an ace. Alexis Khuu, playing outside hitter, got a couple of kills and turned over the serve to Jordan Meyers. Meyers dealt back to back aces to get BHS the lead up to 11-7. C. Weber stopped a Juanita run with back to back kills to make it 14-14 as Juanita was looking to spoil the fun. The game was back an forth until Abby Harden got the serve and the ace and the score was 20-17. Jenna Keenan got a smash from the right side to stop another JHS rally and make the score 22-19. Meyers, on the serve again, served out the game with another ace and culminating with a C. Weber kill and game one went to The Blue, 25-19.

Having sat out game one, Naomi Chen-Mallouk was eager to join the festivities and got 2 kills and a block early on to make the score 4-2. Bellevue then went on a run getting kills from Hannah Geffe, Chen-Mallouk, C. Weber, a Sophia Knapp ace, a Chen-Mallouk kill and then a NCM block. The run wasn’t over until Bellevue was up 11-3. The lead was stretched to 15-8 after C. Weber took a Taylor Eide set and put it away. Shortly there after, Keenan took the game in her hands. She got a kill giving herself the serve. She got 3 aces out of the next four points to make the lead 21-11. Harden then replaced Keenan and served out the game finishing it off with an ace and a final of 25-11.

Juanita started out strong in game three and took a 0-3 lead before Chen-Mallouk stopped the run. Naomi got two more kills and a block in a run that surrounded a Julia Bray kill and the Wolverines had the lead at 8-5. Knapp, diving from the back row, squeezed the ball over the net and onto the deck and the Libero had a rare kill. However, the Rebels were hanging tough and it took a Katie Sorell kill to stop the bleeding at 14-13. Chen-Mallouk kept her hot hand with a couple of kills and Knapp took the serve and was dealing aces like a Vegas blackjack dealer. The last one made the score 19-16 prompting a Juanita time out. Hannah Geffe added to the ace total and it just took kills by C. Weber and Sorell to finish off the game and match at 25-18.

We’d like to thank the 8 seniors and their families for their commitment to the Bellevue volleyball program. They will be missed and they should be proud of their legacy. But, this team is far from done as they take on Redmond on the road next Monday and start Kingco playoffs next Thursday. The 2018 class of Sophia Knapp, Abby Harden, Jordan Meyers, Callie Weber, Taylor Eide, Alexis Khuu, Holly Huard, and Mina Dedijer, you are the best!

We’d also like to thank Amy Burns, Huong Pham, and Milena Dedijer for their leadership and coordination of the event, and all the people who helped put together the wonderful senior night program. Thank you for making the night a special one.
