Varsity and JV Undefeated in KingCo 3A!

As the BHS volleyball program wraps up its third week of 2019, both the Varsity and JV teams remain undefeated in league play.  The teams wrap up their first pass through the conference on Monday 10/7 against Mercer Island.

As of publication date, the teams have played 6 matches over the past two weeks, with particularly tough challenges against Bothell, Lake Washington, and Eastlake High Schools.

In Varsity play, the Bothell Cougars came into the contest undefeated, and with a stable of very tall, strong players.  After trading the first two sets, the consistent serving, defense, and hitting of the Wolverines wore down their opponents and Bellevue took the match 3-1.  The JV match was tight, but Bothell ultimately

prevailed 2-1.  It is the only set that the Bothell JV team has dropped this season.

The Lake Washington match promised to be a thriller, with both Varsity teams heading into the contest undefeated.  The band and a large student section added to the excitement, and the match didn't disappoint.

The first set started with a kill and ace by Megan Webber, with a quick block by Jessica Buxton followed by a kill by Mia Vong.  With great serving by Izzy, a kill from Kaitlyn and then an ace by Izzy brought the score to a quick 15-6.  The team was on fire, with fantastic digs from Carly, couple more aces from Megan and Carly; terrific high jumping blocks from Jess and Julia, another kill by Mia and then Jess with a kill to win the first set 25-16.

In the second set the Lake Washington middles dominated play, but 3 aces from Megan and two blocks from Jess bought the game to 23-21. Tough fight but finally the win goes to Lake Washington 26-24.

Third set the girls were back, with several kills in quick succession from Jess, Devon and Megan and superb blocks from Mia and Kaitlyn. The points are hard to get with Lake Washington formidable outside hitter, but Carly aces to get us to 12-13. Blockmeister Jess gets us to 18-14. Jess digging it out for a kill by Kaitlyn, followed by a sweet ace from Izzy and a final kill by Kaitlyn for the win 25-17.

Fourth set starts hard and fast with a brilliant dig by Carly, a tip over from Jess and a kill by Kaitlyn.  Still behind at 9-14 the girls are battling it out. Stating to close the gap with great blocking, a kill by jess, quick pass over from Izzy together with consistent serving by Izzy and another Jess block and kill levels the score at 18-18. Izzy continues to serve great and in quick succession blocks from Julia and Jess, kill and tip over by Julia followed by an ace brings the score to 22-19. We’re all sitting on the edge of our seats as the teams are playing hard. Quick thinking by Kaitlyn for a push over the net followed by a final kill for the win 25-22!
