Bellevue Volleyball Undefeated!

The Bellevue Varsity volleyball team remained undefeated this last week, beating Sammamish and Interlake High Schools. Their first match of the week against Sammamish had the Wolverines down early in the first set, but a run of great serves by middle hitter Jenna Keenan tied the game 9-9. Some great quick hits and overall offence stretched the lead, and a back row kill by Julia Bray finished the set 25-18.  Killer serves dominated the second set with a quick 25-10 win, then continued to into the third set, this time led by libero Carly Burns. Carly came up to the line with the score tied at 5-5 and her serves led the team for 14 straight points with too many aces to count. The Wolverines finished in a clean sweep against the Totems 3-0.

The Wolverine’s second match last week against Interlake High School was probably the biggest challenge so far this year, along with the biggest crowd showing some serious spirit in supporting their team! The Varsity team battled through the first set trading points back and forth to finally come out on top 27-25. They held their lead in the second set with another round of strong serves, ending 25-19 to give Bellevue the momentum heading into the third set. The Wolverines led for much of the third set, but a few late errors had them falling behind late in the game. They battled back to a tie but couldn’t hold their momentum and lost the third set 25-27. Another tough loss in the fourth set found the team tied 2-2 and heading into a fifth set. The Wolverines came back strong and found themselves on top winning the final set 15-10. Strong serves and some amazing defense really set them apart and helped secure the hard-fought win.

In JV action, the Wolverines remained undefeated in league play as well, beating Sammamish 3-1 and Interlake 2-1.  The team is showing great improvement in each match and getting great contributions from up and down the lineup.  The C Team lost a heartbreaker to Sammamish on Tuesday, but bounced back to beat Interlake on Friday night to complete the Wolverine sweep over the Saints.  The C Team is now 2-2 in league and 3-2 overall.

We have two away games this week on Monday and Tuesday nights against Redmond and Lake Washington. Our next home game is against rival Mercer Island on Tuesday, October 2nd followed by another home game on October 4th against Liberty High School. The C-Team and JV start at 5:15pm and the Varsity starts at 7:00pm.
