Holly Jolly Win Over Lake Washington!

The Bellevue Wolverines traveled to Kirkland on Wednesday to take on the Lake Washington Kangaroos.  It just happened to correspond with the birthday of outside hitter Holly Huard, which added a little spark to the evening's events.

Callie Weber put away an overpass to kick off the scoring in game one. Katie Sorrell then got a block to put BHS up 2-1. Up 7-3, Weber got consecutive back row kills to make the score 9-3. The Birthday Girl opened up her account with a tip kill to make it 10-4. Weber and Huard continued to cause LW problems each getting a few more kills. Jenna Kennan finished off the game with a kill off the slide play to take game 1, 25-15.

After a Weber kill produced a side out at the outset of game 2, Alexis Khuu took the serve. Before she was finished, Bellevue had amassed a 10-0 lead highlighted by a stretch of 3 kills from Naomi Chen-Mallouk. A Huard kill made the score 12-2 giving Sophia Knapp the serve. She baffled the Roos with 3 straight aces to make the score 15-2. Weber finished off the game with 2 more kills and 2 aces of her own and game two was completed with a score of, 25-13.

Game three started with a stuff block and a tip kill by Mina Dedijer. Huard kept her mojo going with a block and a couple of more kills to make the score 14-4. Julia Bray got back to back kills from Natalie Hayes sets to go up 19-11. Huard got her last kill of the night from a Taylor Eide assist to make the score 22-13. A Jordan Meyers kill put BHS on the doorstep up 24-17. LW made a late run to make the score look closer, but the match ended as it began with a Weber kill, this time from the back row, to make the final, 25-22.

Weber lead the team with 12 kills followed by Huard with 8. Khuu led the squad with 21 assists. Knapp and Khuu led the team with 3 aces and each had 7 digs.

The Wolverines take on Liberty at home on Monday in a rematch of an earlier nail biter that went 5 games. We hope to see you there to cheer on the team!
