Wolverines Deflate Patriots
Teams Sweep Liberty to Start Conference 3-0
The Bellevue Wolverine program continued its strong start to the season on Wednesday evening against the Liberty Patriots, sweeping the Varsity, JV, and C games while only losing one set.
The varsity match got off to a competitive start, with the Patriots putting up a staunch block and taking advantage of early serving miscues to jump out to a 13-8 lead. Bellevue started marching back behind kills from Callie Weber, Holly Huard, and Ally Witham, and eventually gained a 19-18 lead after a strong serving run from Jenna Keenan. The two teams then traded punches until Bellevue ultimately prevailed at 27-25.
Sets 2 and 3 were all Bellevue, with the Wolverines coming out on top 25-17 and 25-13 and securing the match. Weber led the Wolverines will 16 kills, and both Huard and Witham contributed 8 each. Naomi Chen-Mallouk ended up with 6 kills to go along with 4 timely blocks. They were all set up with a season-high 36 assists from Alexis Khuu. Defensively, Sophia Knapp led Bellevue with 14 digs, to go with Weber's 12 and Witham's 11.
The JV and C teams both won their matches as well, with the JV team winning 2-1 and the C-team sweeping its match 3-0. The C Team showed some great resolve in game 3, storming back from a 10-2 deficit to win the game behind some great serving performances.
