MI Islanders Defeat Bellevue Wolverines 3-1

(25-20, 25-17, 17-25, 19-25)

The Bellevue High School Wolverines shipped off to the Mercer Island Islanders with a undeafeted 5-0 record on Monday night and returned to homeport with their first loss.

A deep Mercer Island squad led by senior setter Natalie Robinson capitalized early on the Wovlerines slow start taking the first set 25-20.  In that first set, Bellevue dug themselves a hole and could never close the gap.  In the second set the Wolverines came out fighting and kept it close until about midway and then the Islanders behind their tenacious defense pulled away to end it 25-17.  The 3rd set brought out a feisty Wolverine team that wasn't going to give up and rollover.  A combination of smart serving, big blocking and hitting, and just all out hustle plays gave Bellevue their first set of the night at 25-17.  The fourth set again brought out a feisty Wolverine team that battled with their opponent with tight scoring back and forth until midway through the set when Mercer Island, again with tenancious defense, eventually pulled away to win 25-19.
