Wolverines Back To Winning Ways against Newport
There was no rest for the weary as the Bellevue Wolverines played their third game in four days. The good news is they don’t have time to think about their first loss of the year as they welcome the 4A Newport Knights to their home gym on Thursday night.
The Wolverines showed little rust as they bounced out to a 9-5 lead after Holly Huard had her third kill in four points. At 10-8, Callie Weber got going. She goes kill, block, kill, and then ace to account for four straight points and BHS was up 14-8. Another Weber kill caused a side out. Katie Sorrell and Naomi Chen-Mallouk combined for a block to make the score 18-10. Hannah Geffe finished off the game with an ace and game one went to the home team, 25-14.
Newport took the early lead in game two but Huard made sure that wasn’t going to continue. Good back row passes from Sophia Knapp, Carlie Burns, and Julia Bray set up Khuu to assist the hot hand and set Holly up for four kills in stretch to put BHS up 10-7. Jenna Kennan ran the slide from the middle to put away a kill and followed that up with three aces in a long serving stretch that didn’t end until the Wolverines were up 19-8. Weber got a kill and earned the serve. She served out the game including aces on the last two points and game 2 went to the Blue and Gold, 25-13.
Game three started with Alexis Khuu serving. And her run didn’t end until the Wolverines were up 7-0 and included four aces. Abby Harden got her second kill of the match to go up 8-1. Harden then backed it up with an ace to make the score 12-7. Newport dug deep and tightened up the score and it wasn’t until Mina Dedijer got a kill to put BHS up 19-16 that the lead was secure. The game ended with a rare back row attack from libero Sophia Knapp that NHS sent out and the game, 25-21, and match, 3-0, were completed.
Weber lead the team with 11 kills followed by Huard with 7. Chen-Mallouk lead the squad with 2 blocks. Khuu spurred the attack with 16 assists and lead the team with 7 aces. Knapp keyed the defense with 11 digs followed by Burns with 6.
The Wolverines improve to 6-1 and get a few days rest before traveling to Juanita next Monday.

JV Continues to Roll vs. Newport!
The Wolverine JV squad won its third match in a row and fifth out of its last six on Thursday against the Newport Knights. The winning streak has vaulted Bellevue to the top of the Kingco 3A JV standings!
Game 1 started off a bit rocky, but was quickly corrected by Mason Mukhar who delivered 2 point run to put Bellevue up 4-2. Jessica Buxton then followed up with a 3-point service run. The Wolverines fell behind, but Mukhar delivered a strong kill and Buxton followed with an ace to make it close. Bellevue went on a roll from there with the next 6 points and a 25-21 win.
Some nice serves by Audrey Miner gave Bellevue an early lead, followed by Meghan Weber with a jump serve ace and sweet kill by Buxton to go up 7-5. Julianne Raman served 4 nice serves to go 16/10. Short serves and dumps by Newport gave us some trouble but a great set by Weber to Buxton for a great hit put Bellevue up 21-17. Buxton delivered two aces to seal the win at 25/19.
Another nice win for the JV team!
